Data Visualization and Advanced Analytics

Understanding the key aspect of Data Discovery, DVCS includes multiple features to facilitate the data analysis process. One simple tool used for data discovery is the filters: the user can decide to filter Attributes based on values or Measures based on ranges.

Together with the filter, Reference Lines and Trend Lines are available in DVCS straight out-of-the-box. As well as these features, more Advanced Analytics tools are available in combination with R. For this reason, DVCS includes an Oracle R Distribution (version 3.1.1) installer executable after the installation of DVCS. When R and the required libraries are installed, we will be able to use Clustering, Outlier Detection and Forecasting, as well as custom R scripts.

In the example below we use Clusters to identify how the number of branches by region affects the sales. In addition, we have a Reference Line to analyze the average sales for different branches. Finally, using Trend Lines, we can see that the relationship between minimum number of branches and sales which has been increasing over the fiscal year month.

Oracle R Distribution is an Oracle-supported redistribution of open source R which comes pre-installed with Oracle applications. ORD is part of Oracle's overall strategy for Data Science. ORD built on the fundamentals of R is a programming language and software environment is meant for statistical analysis, graphics representation and reporting. ORD facilitates enterprise acceptance of R, since the lack of a major corporate sponsor has made some companies concerned about fully adopting R.

Why Oracle R Distribution?

  • Improve scalability and performance at R client and database with Oracle R Enterprise embedded R execution
  • Dynamically load linear algebra performance libraries for Intel's Math Kernel Library (MKL), AMD's ACML, and Sun Performance Library for Solaris, which enables optimized, multi-threaded math routines to provide relevant R functions maximum performance on targeted hardware
  • Oracle-provided enterprise support for customers of the Oracle Advanced Analytics option, Oracle Linux, and the Oracle Applications

Data mining with ORD: Automatically works large data volumes to find hidden patterns, discover insights and make predictions

  • Identify most important factor (Attribute Importance)
  • Predict customer behavior (Classification)
  • Predict or estimate a value (Regression)
  • Find profiles of targeted people or items (Decision Trees)
  • Segment a population (Clustering)
  • Find fraudulent or “rare events” (Anomaly Detection)
  • Determine co-occurring items in a “baskets” (Associations)

How much bigger is data going to get with the Internet of Things (IoT), and how will this change the way businesses gather, store, compute, and consume data? There are a few ways companies can leverage the massive, unstructured data of the IoT with DVCS. We would talk about this in our next blog.

Part 2- Another Five Reasons to Implement Standard ERP in Poultry Industry

In last blog, I have promised to come back with a complete edition on the benefits and process of implementing a ERP in the poultry industry. Now in this blog we would go little bit micro to understand the benefits of the standard ERP in Poultry or Hatcheries.  So let’s start with the Hatchery Process. This is beginning of the process where eggs laid by the Grand Parents are hatched in the artificial mechanized hatchers to produce parent, Broiler or layer chicks. The prime advantages of using a ERP in the Hatchery are:
  1. Effective Scheduling: As the ERP system integrates all the processes it gives you an environment where based on the laying cycle and laid eggs, users can schedule the hatching machine effectively.
  2. Increase in efficiency: Due to advance planning by ERP, organizations can plan the break downs in advance. This opens up lot of opportunity windows for the efficiency improvement with less wastage of eggs. ERP like NAVFARM, helps in defining the machines capacity and availability. Which in turn helps management in taking proactive measures for smooth supply chain.
  3. Traceability: During chick production it is important to have visibility right from flock number of the grand parent/parent or batch number in case of eggs to the flock number given to the DOC. ERP software helps in maintaining the traceability throughout the value chain. This helps the hatchery owners to establish the root cause for the problems such as cracks, deformities etc in eggs. Moreover you can take corrective action for such problems.
  4.  Cost tracking: Costing is a crucial aspect in the poultry industry. Market is driven by various parameters and management would like to achieve a real costing to manage the market forces. The ERP helps in micro accounting in real time scenario giving a visibility on the daily costing of the Hatchery. This empowers sales managers to drive the better margins.
  5.  Live Inventory: As output of the hatchery is entered in live environment in the ERP, supply manager has the complete visibility in the inventory of DOC including the rejections. In scenario of the multiple hatcheries at multiple location, a centralized view is given by leading ERP such as NAVFARM.
Apart from above points there are more stuff in these ERP and organizations need to evaluate the products with agility, sustainability & scalability. I will be coming with more advantages in continuation to this series. Please feel free to write about above article to [email protected].

Performance Management - A Nightmare for HR/Manager

Each organization wants to reward its performers with best available options. The major bottleneck comes during these rewards is choosing the right person. These rewards some time gets influenced by following factors:

  1. Time of review cycle: The timing of the review cycle. For example, if a major installation or process improvement is achieved near to review cycle, the manager under influence of the latest work award the team/person involved in this project. This leaves a space for the dissatisfied team member who has contributed in project which is good in longer run.
  2. Personal Likes:  The personal likes play a major role in the performance appraisal cycle. Sycophants get an advantage over the performers if the review process has certain gaps.
  3. Prejudice: Another contributor to the wrongly decisions as reviewers might be influenced by prejudice about an individual based on certain history. In this scenario Organization will be at lose as its reward process might not be smooth.
  4. Tools: Most of the organisations use excel or some custom made tools for performance review. This makes the whole process cumbersome, opaque and exposing it errors.
  5. User Ownership: Manager does not want to take the ownership of the rewards he is delivering to team members.
To overcome above challenges, it is recommended that HR team should role out a Performance Management HCM Tool also referred as HR ERP. The system should have certain bare minimum properties as explained below:

  1. Self Service: System should enable users for a self-service based goal setting for the review cycles. Now whether it is 360 or 180 degree review, user himself should be able to update the records in the system.
  2. Pre Defined Templates: To provide ease of entering KRA/Goal setting and competencies, system should allow defining the templates as per position/profile of the individual. This will help the user for faster entry and clear directions about goals.
  3. Flexi Goal Definition: Tool should provide flexibility to enter the user defined field in the Goal/KRA setting.
  4. Organization setup: A detailed hierarchy including position hierarchy shall be supported by the application or tool.
  5. Ease of Use: To drive the ownership it is most important that application or tool shall be user friendly. Which enables self-navigation without much of the hassles?
  6. SOA/Integration: Technology of development of the application shall be SOA (Service Oriented Architect), which makes it more usable by extending the integration to the existing applications.

The list of desired applications features is endless; I have tried to list the top most reasons & features required in a performance management tool. To avoid the night mares of HR team, it is advisable to use such tools. There are lot of excellent tools called as Talent Management tool from leading enterprise application companies such as SAP, Oracle, Workday etc.. Oracle has a cost effective solution for the mid-size companies. I will advise process owners to evaluate the applications based on the budget and the depth of the product.

GST India How It Impact On ERP Systems

What is the GST ?
GST means goods and service tax which is under the indirect Tax. GST replace most indirect taxes currently in place such as:

Proposed GST Structure:

GST Impacts on Key Business:
GST Game Changer:

GST will be a game changing reform for Indian economy by developing a common Indian market and reducing the cascading effect of tax on the cost of goods and services. It will impact the tax structure, tax incidence, tax computation, tax payment, compliance, credit utilisation and reporting leading to a complete overhaul of the current indirect tax system.

What process needs to be followed for implementing GST in ERP Programs:

  • Goods & services tax act-study
  • Understand how GST is subsuming of existing taxes
  • Understand functioning of GST
  • Understand GST compliance's

How can we Manage GST in Microsoft Dynamics Navision:

Till the Microsoft patch release we will manage it through minor customisation and structure and to set up posting details for GST, you must define the posting groups, rate of GST, and the accounts to which GST is to be posted.

  • Need to change master data, supply chain, transactions and system design.
  • Existing open transactions as on the cut-off date need to be migrated out to ensure smooth transition to GST.
  • Changes in supply chain report e.g. purchase register, sales register and service register.
  • Changes in tax Reports.
  • Changes need to be done on forms & Tax Returns
  • As per compliance changes needs to be done on documents e.g. invoices, purchase orders and credit memos.

How GST makes ERP life easy

Current Process
Currently we need to make multiple setups in the Microsoft Dynamics Nav e.g. excise setup, service tax setup and sales tax setup.

After GST
After implementation of GST, the process will become simpler with only a single setup.

Top Five Reasons to Implement Standard ERP in Poultry Industry

Poultry or Livestock industry is growing due to increase in the urban per capital and falling prices of the broiler & egg. Now to compete in the growing market to sustain or increase the market share, organization needs to innovate. One of the important aspect in this innovation is adoption of the IT systems in business process. Following top 5 reasons can explain, why you need IT systems to automate your business processes:

1. Information Captured at farm level: An integrated software helps in accumulating the information from the farms & other business functions at a centralised location. Which further help in analysing the key parameters in a real time contributing to proactive measures for key indicators such as mortality ratios, FCR or feed planning.

2. Integration with finance: Traceability of all the expense items and profitability at a farm/hatchery/feed plant level helps in calculation of P&L at same level. A click of button can drill down to profitability at farm/feed plant/hatchery as ERP helps in capturing all the information.

3. Collaboration with Mobility: Mobile solution helps in better collaboration through flow of information across organization with single source of truth. ERP like Microsoft Dynamics Navision supported by solution like NAVFARM, provide mobility to the sales person/farm supervisors/CXO etc.

4. Effective utilization of resources: 80:20 rule applicable in saving the 20% increase in availability of effective time of resources by ERP initiative, contributes to the 80% increase in the Key deliverable due to investment of the time in proactive measures rather post fact analysis.

5. Tap the untapped potential: ERP for poultry give better control on the dynamics of the market enabling management by better understanding of the market trends. Which further helps organization to enter in the new markets with intelligent data.

A story can be written on the heaps of under hidden benefits which can be achieved by Poultry industry by using standard ERP. In next series we will discuss difference between standard and custom ERP. Keep following us for next edition.

How the Cloud is going to Reinvent ERP

The buzz has become reality and IT managers along with business users have started accepting cloud as the cost effective solution for the enterprise applications. We are seeing adoption in areas such as HCM, BI and storage. Percentage of adoption of ERP with cloud is still at a very low due to sensitivity of the data captured in the ERP. We have identified following areas where cloud can help in reinventing your ERP:

1. User Experience:

  • The whole GUI is web based which is much easier technology in the internet world. User can
    associate himself with application.
  • The speed of the servers is dynamic, which means user need not to wait for the processors.
  • Remote working from anywhere in the world enhances the productivity of the users.

2. Easy Upgrades: Organizations can get rid of longer cycles for the upgradations as the cloud applications are updated by the OEM itself. Which means the less risk & down time for the typical patch or version upgradations.

3. Infrastructure Efficiency: Organizations end up purchasing hardware which might be over & under the optimal requirement. In both scenarios they are bound to incur loss. In cloud world the dynamics of the hardware is flexible and can be reduced or increased as per load factor. The SLA (Service level agreement) with OEM, protects end user from the under performance of the hardware.

4. Technology Agnostic: The technology is moving at a faster pace than the adoption of the same in the organizations, which results in the redundancy of the on premise hardware or software. Cloud helps in driving keeping your software/hardware up to the mark and accessible through multiple channels.

5. Flexible Roadmap: Modern cloud ERP helps organization to adopt the best practices in processes. Hence irrespective of the size of the organization these platforms can be adopted. The uniformity of the processes makes roadmap of the smaller organization on the same platform as of large.

The above points can help you in taking a decision on the cloud ERP. In case you have any feedback or observation please feel free to write to us [email protected]

Oracle Business Intelligence Paybles Dashboard

As per Prudence pre-built approach, Dashboards and Reports are easy and fast to be rolled out on Oracle secured cloud environment with customer’s data so that the data makes more sense and let them understand as to what changes are required to the standard one’s in making better decisions. Our methodology not only helps the customers design their choice of dashboards well before the system has been configured on the actual platform thus saving a lot of effort and cost in doing the actual implementation.

Payables Module provides an overview of heath of the payable side of the business and enables Finance to best manage its cash outflows and ensure timely payments to its suppliers.

OVERVIEW: Payables Overview Page provides key statistics on the payables function within finance. Metrics include DPO, Overdue invoices and reports that provide insight that how efficient your staff is.

Overview Dashboard consists of 4 metrics
  1. DPO (Days Payable Outstanding)
  2. Payables Snapshot
  3. Invoice Transactions Efficiency
  4. Payment Performance
  1. Here we get the information about Days Payable Outstanding
  2. Drill in place
  3. Here we get info about AP Balance and Days Payable outstanding for each supplier
  1. Gives snapshot of key performance indicators in payables for the current fiscal quarter
  2.  Drill in place for all amounts except for invoice amount. All amounts drill is same as below except the last one i.e. the amount for AP Total Payment Amount.
  3. It directs to Payments Due the third tab in the dashboard
  4. Here we can see :
a)      AP Payment Due aging (Chart and Pivot table drill on pivot table)
b)      AP Payments Overdue Aging Report (Chart and Pivot table drill on pivot table)
c)        Top 10 Suppliers by payment due in current quarter
d)      Top 10 Suppliers by overdue amounts
e)      Payments due by Payment due date
a, b pivot tables look like below

  1. AP Payment Due aging: Displays the AP payment due aging for the current fiscal quarter.

Drill on amount a. Pivot table (Click on dollar amount) directs to Payments Due invoice Details (1-30) Days Aging Report where we get the below details. Again there is drill on Supplier Name. It will get the filtered data for that supplier with same columns as above. Similarly for 31-60, 61-90, 90+ we will get different reports with same columns

  1. AP Payments Overdue Aging Report: Display the Ap payment overdue aging for the current fiscal quarter.
Overdue amounts are supplier balances that are past payment due date. If the overdue balances as a %to AP balance are high, this could indicate problems with the supplier. There could be dispute with the supplier. If it is not resolved, then the vendor might stop supply which could disrupt production.

Exactly the same way it is designed for overdue amounts also (b. Pivot table) with same columns and again there is drill on Supplier Name.

Critical Success Factors in ERP Upgrade

  • To maintain software version as per the industry standards and use latest technology
  • Microsoft support policy has defined timelines for life of older versions
  • Change in business dynamics and challenges faced in optimizing processes. Ex: B2B, Internet penetration, statutory compliances like XBRL, IFRS etc….
  •  Continuous evolution of technology creates scarcity of  resources supporting older versions of software & hardware
  • Evolution of other software like .NET, MS office creates gap between usability and sustainability of older versions.
  •  Redundant transactional data gets accumulated over a period is only required for records and analysis. But importantly makes system slow and consume resources which can be better utilized.

Key Business Advantages of Upgrading your ERP

ü  Consolidating the learning of previous versions.
ü  Consolidated data with drill down facility.
ü  Short duration implementation.
ü  Configuring amalgamation of learning & functionalities (New Features).
ü  Option of selective migration based on wish list of users.
ü  No need to maintain different versions of applications.
ü  No hassle of testing migrated data.
ü  Management dashboards with multiple company and multiyear transactional data.

Business As-usual with no change in process
Non utilization of new features
Existing customization gets migrated
Even redundant customizations will be migrated.
Whole data would be available in new system.
Redundant transactions will contribute in resources utilization

Longer process since testing is time consuming

No defined methodology for customization migration
